April 2018 Meeting Notes

Welcome to Press 195 – Rockville Centre!

Since we last met . . .

InterClub Social at The Brewer’s Collective (3/24) – Four hours of Open Bar for Tri-Club (AssLIHC) Members, beer discussions, networking and fun! Thank you to the Brewer’s Collective for the special event, especially Sarah and Jason for coordinating and Tim for holding down the taproom!

 

Coney Island Wort Share Competition –  Angel Santiago (LIBME) Claimed the Prize–Brew Day in November. Congratulations!

Cask Ale Event at Mill Roadhouse in Westhampton Beach – Over $5k Raised for Kids w/ Type1 Diabetes. Stay tuned for next year’s event!

 

Brew for Autism – Staten Island – Over $20k Raised! Outstanding turnout by the club members travelling to Staten Island. The day ended with a nice club dinner at a local German biergarten. 

First Round of National Homebrew Competition at Fifth Hammer Brewing Co. – Special Thanks to Andrew Luberto and Chris Cuzme (Judge Coordinator and Hosts). Good luck to all who entered!

Iron Brewer Competition – Better Get Brewing! Entries will be tasted and judged at next month’s meeting! Several team will be brewing a chocalate inspired beer with mystery ingredients. May be best brewers be crowned the first ever club ‘Iron Brewers!’

Upcoming Events!

  • Saturday, May 5th – Big Brew Day @ GSB [Eric] – Room Available for anyone to come down and brew, learn, participate or observe! All brewers with active club memberships and AHA memberships have a chance to bring the Big Brew Day beers back to GSB for a possible shot at the GABF Pro-Am Entry. GSB has won a few pro-am awards. Do you have what it takes?!

May 11-12th – B.E.E.R. Homebrew Competition @ GSB – Anyone interested in entering, judging or stewarding, see Bernard or John.

Club Competition. Entries for the next round are due in June! Congratulations to John Smith for his English Brown, winning 1st Place and having a chance to be brewed with 1940’s Brewery, as a possible GABF Pro-Am Entry!

Travel Planning for HomeBrewCon

  • Chris Bonacorsa has agreed to head up the committee for planning related to HomeBrewCon this June in Portland, OR. He’s been in touch with the AHA, and has posted a form to sign up if you’re interested in going. Please connect with Chris if you’re interested.

GUEST SPEAKER: Pat Alfred – Head Brewer – and Jon Kelly, Sales Director. . . from Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.— OG Series on tap NOW! Pat reviewed his history, starting as a home-brewer right here in Nassau County, and ultimately working his way from Barrier Brewing Co to head brewer at Greenport Harbor. His meticulous research and brewing creativity have landed recipes of some of the best Long Island has to offer! THANK YOU to Pat and Jon for spending time with us!
